TRAGEDY struck in Sebokeng zone 14 in the Vaal as Tumelo Mofokeng (33) was shot more than eight times on Friday, 10 November.

Tumelo was shot by unknown gunmen while sitting at his usual spot at his home near the front doorstep on the stoep.

His death shocked his family and neighbours as they described him as a person who wouldn’t even kill a fly as he was a man of peace.

The family said he didn’t even have friends, and his friends were his books and church.

His mother, Mampaile Mofokeng (68), told Daily Sun that she is heartbroken.

According to Mampaile, on Friday evening as they were watching TV, Tumelo went outside to sit at his spot as usual, and they heard gunshots, but they never thought it was in their home.

She said the smell of gunpowder made them go outside to inspect and shockingly, they found Tumelo lying dead next to his camp chair with a bullet in his head.

“As a mother, I only saw one bullet hole on his head, but I was shattered when forensics and cops told us that my son was shot eight times. I still can’t believe that my son who has never fought with anyone in his life and was always at home after work would be brutally killed,” she said.

According to the family, Tumelo’s older brother was also shot dead years ago.

Tumelo’s uncle, Abel Phalli, told Daily Sun that no one saw the killers.

“It's only rumoured that it was people driving a maroon Mini Cooper with no registration, and his killer was also wearing a face mask,” he said.

Gauteng police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed the incident.

He told Daily Sun that on Friday, 10 November, cops responded promptly to the shooting report in Sebokeng zone 14.

“Upon arrival at the scene, police found the body of a male person with gunshot wounds lying on his back, inside the yard,” he said.

Masondo said paramedics certified him dead at the scene and the motive for the killing couldn't be confirmed at this stage.

“Police have opened a case of murder and are appealing to anyone who might have information that can help in the investigation or assist in the apprehension of the suspects to please call the nearest police station,” he said.
