AN EMOTIONAL safety special prayer for Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens was held in Vanderbijlpark, Vaal on Wednesday, 8 November.
The prayer comes after the death of Jabulani Gininda (35), who was attached to the Orange Farm Police Station and was shot nine times in October 2023 while on duty, and his killer was bust a day before his burial.
Amapanyaza flocked to the Quest Conference Hall, where different pastors and churches held a special prayer, asking God to protect the new crime-fighting unit.
Bishop Thabo Moeketsi said that the job of a police officer is to run towards danger, at the risk of their own life, to save and protect strangers.
“It was once a noble and respected profession, but today’s culture has come to expect that many will die senselessly, and their deaths barely make the local news,” said Moeketsi.
“Far too often, we hear police chiefs tearfully making statements like, we're heartbroken to announce the shooting of our officers, and we ask for community support and prayers for our fellow officers and their families as we try to cope with yet another tragic event in our police family."
According to Moeketsi, he understands the toll this job can take on the officers and their families, and that will come to an end as they're praying for all law enforcement officers to always be safe as they protect residents from criminals.

He told Amapanyaza to wear the uniform with pride and always trust in God that they're protected, and there will be no more killings of their colleagues.
One of the crime prevention wardens told Daily Sun that it’s so sad that when an officer leaves their home for work, it might be the last time they ever see them alive, and it’s a sad reality that families live with that every day.
Archbishop Dan Hlanyane asked pastors and churches to pray for the police officers.
Hlanyane said that it seems like being in the police force is becoming a less respected or appreciated job. Yet, brave men and women are still wearing the uniform to answer the call when community members are in trouble with criminals.
