THE accused in the murder case of Tshidiso Ramatlo (18) and Katleho Letseli (25) is set to appear in court on Monday, 26 February.

Sandile Mbatha’s case was postponed to 26 February after he made a brief appearance in the Joburg High Court on 19 October 2023 for pre-trial.

The 30-year-old is accused of killing Ramatlo and Letseli for allegedly stealing VW polo lights.

Sunday, 21 January marked the anniversary of their deaths. Despite the delayed justice, the two families still believe the law would take its course.

Tshidiso’s mum, Lillian Ramatlo spoke to Daily Sun on the day of the anniversary and recalled how she found out her son had died.

"If my son didn't come home, he'd be at the door by 6am the following morning. But on this particular day, it was different. Even in the morning he still wasn't back home. I woke up and went to go check on someone in the hospital. While there, I saw a Facebook post saying two boys were found dead on the sports field at Diepkloof Zone 2. That’s when I started asking my sister's son about Tshidiso’s whereabouts because he hadn't come home.

"I could feel that something was wrong. I even checked the trauma room hoping to find him. I also went to the government mortuary, but I wasn't helped,” she said.

Former eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede is set to appear at the Durban High Court on Monday, 26 February for her fraud and corruption case.

A 31-year-old man is also expected to appear before Amsterdam Magistrates Court on Monday, 26 February for possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.
