POLICE have taken necessary measures to protect themselves against criminals.
This is according to Police Minister Bheki Cele during his visit to Desai area in Marrianhill, Durban where nine wanted suspects were shot dead by cops.
The minister said cops are not trigger happy.
He visited the area to hear about the residents' safety concerns on Thursday, 4 April.
The nine suspects who were said to be terrorising the community were fatally wounded in a shoot-out with cops on Wednesday morning, 3 April.

Speaking to the community members, Cele said the aim of the imbizo was to assure the residents safety and to hear them out.
"We are planning to come for another imbizo here for the community of the West and surrounding communities," he said.
Despite the successful operation, residents expressed that they are still living in fear about the potential presence of additional suspects.
However, Cele assured the community of continued police efforts to maintain safety and address their concerns.
"They fear because they don’t believe that the sweeping has been completed here. They believe that two people ran away and there are some who worked with them," said the minister.
