A SANGOMA says his ancestors are not happy with slay queens and sex workers.

Sangoma Kgaogelo "Nkomo yase lwandle" Mathebula (26) from Marikana in Tswaing View, Tshwane, said this is because every time they consult him in his indumba, they're inappropriately dressed.

He told Daily Sun that most of these women often come in miniskirts, which angers his ancestors.

"I'm not happy with the way these women come to my indumba. They must respect me because I'm a traditional healer," he said.

He claimed that some of the women use their beauty to try and charm him, but he's definitely not interested.

"I love my ancestral calling and I don't want anything that will anger my ancestors. Without my ancestors. I'm nothing. I only ask for respect," he said.

The sangoma said that it's not only happening when he is practising in Tshwane, but even in Limpopo he experiences such from the slay queens.

"My clients are all over the country, and many people don't believe it's me who healed them, especially with the size of my body and my age. When people come to consult, they expect to find a big sangoma," he said, adding that he's been a sangoma for 11 years and wants to continue inspiring other young people who want to become izangoma and have such a calling.

He said it's important for izangoma to always respect their ancestors.

"Besides the issue of slay queens and sex workers, many people come to consult in my indumba always return home happy and smiling."

He said that many people and his community respect him because of his work, adding that his ancestors always protect him from witchcraft and evil people.

Neighbour Hendrick Masombuka (47) said sangoma Kgaogelo is a powerful gobela in the area, but some people just don’t respect him.

"He needs to be respected because he's passionate about his traditional work," he said.
