THIS time of the year is very special to the villagers around this municipality.
Every Easter weekend, villagers under King Cetshwayo District Municipality gather for the Ingoma yamagoso cultural event in Nkandla, KZN.
While other people are heading to different churches, young men and women from all villages in the five municipalities wear their ingoma attires to celebrate the holidays in cultural style.
The Ingoma yamagoso event was organised by the district municipality to strengthen social unity, peace and harmony.
One of the igoso (leader of ingoma group), Mcabango Cele (31) from Mfolozi, said they came all the way from their area because of the love they have for ingoma and the unity it brings among the villagers.
“Such gatherings promote the spirit of brotherhood even for people who live kilometres away from us. It creates peace because we are gathered here to showcase what we represent,” said Mcabanga.

Another igoso, Mcebozithelayo Zulu from Ntembeni Village under Umthonjaneni, said they love coming together because the event helps them maintain a healthy relationship regardless of which village they are from.
“This helps to build a spirit of brotherhood among us. Besides the peace and love that we create here, the event keeps us away from social ills such as crime and drinking alcohol,” said Mcebozithelayo.
Phelelani Mweli (37), who was also at the event, said they like coming together because the event helps them to stay away from bad things like crime and substance abuse.
King Cetshwayo Mayor Thami Ntuli said: “We decided to host Ingoma yamagoso during this Easter holidays to strengthen unity, peace and harmony to the community ahead of the general elections. Ingoma yamagoso can play a pivotal role in uniting, promoting unity and spreading love within the community of our district.”
