A MOQHAKA Municipality MMC who is facing a charge of rape will re-appear in the Viljoenskroon Magistrates Court in Free State on Wednesday, 20 December for a continuation of his much-anticipated bail hearing application.

The MMC is accused of raping a 22-year-old girl who had asked for a lift from him on Monday, 4 December. The victim was allegedly driven to a farm where she was allegedly raped.

NPA acting spokesman Mojalefa Senokoatsane said investigations led by police are continuing in this matter and those investigations will determine if additional charges are to be added or not.

The MMC's alleged misconduct has attracted the attention of political parties including EFF, Rise Mzansi, DA and African Congress for Transformation.

The parties picketed outside the Viljoeskroon Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 13 December during the MMC’s bail hearing.

EFF spokesman Malefane Msimanga said the alleged actions undermine the credibility of efforts to protect women and children in Fezile Dabi district and the province at large.
