SOME parents of kids living with disabilities attending school at Wolvenkop Special School in Verena are frustrated and angry.

They alleged that their kids were sexually abused at the school.

The parents claimed this has been happening for some time now, and nothing is being done.

The parents told Daily Sun that they want justice for the rape of their children.

A parent from Suncity A near KwaMhlanga said she discovered that her 11-year-old deaf child had been raped in August 2023.

"I went to fetch my child from school for the holidays. I noticed that her movement wasn't normal. I thought that maybe her shoes were hurting her. But she continued walking abnormally. I then asked her what was wrong, but she didn't answer me," said the parent.

"I then noticed some bruises on her left arm. I asked her again and she told me that she was feeling pain in her private parts." (The child uses sign language to communicate).

The 40-year-old mother said she quickly rushed her daughter to the clinic.

"When the nurse examined her, she confirmed that there was a penetration, and it didn't happen once. I took her to hospital and a doctor also confirmed it. All the procedures were followed, and I went to open a case on 14 August 2023. Until today nothing has happened. I demand justice for my child," she said.

Another sad mother (32) from Bankview in KwaMhlanga told the Daily Sun that she saw a list of sexually abused kids during a school meeting in November 2023.

Her nine-year-old child also communicates using sign language.

"On the list, my child's name was there. When the news surfaced, the principal denied the allegations. I took my child to the clinic, and the doctor confirmed that she was raped. The doctor said there was penetration in both her vagina and anal," said the mum.

"The doctor said it didn't happen once and already there's an infection. She is taking meds to treat it."

Department of Education spokesman Jasper Zwane said they condemn any form of abuse of children at all their schools.

He said there are two cases which were reported to the department of alleged sexual assault by pupils.

Police spokesman Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said there are about 10 cases of rape that were opened.

"Both victims and suspects are mentally disturbed, and there are different victims and suspects. All cases are under investigation as both victims and suspects need specialists to deal with the matter," he said.

"Specialists have been arranged to assist with the matter, including social workers, sign language specialists and psychologists. No one has been arrested so far."
