FORMER athletics champion Oscar Pistorius will be a free man in January.
This comes after the parole board set his release for 5 January 2024, after his hearing on Friday, 24 November, in Tshwane.
Initially, Pistorius was convicted of culpable homicide for killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Valentine’s Day in 2013, it was later overturned to murder.
His six-year jail term was reversed and was ultimately sentenced to 13 years and five months in prison.
Earlier in 2023, he was denied parole. A decision that was challenged at the Constitutional Court.

The Department of Correctional Services has since confirmed the news. The parole placement decision was taken by the Correctional Supervision and Parole Board (CSPB).
Correctional Service spokesman Singabakho Nxumalo said his release is in line with the Section 73 Correctional Act.
He said parole placement forms part of the total rehabilitation programme in correcting offending behaviour.
“It may include continuation of programmes aimed at reintegration while in the system of community corrections,” he added.
He said Pistorius will be subjected to supervision in compliance with parole conditions until his sentence expires.
