OPERATION Shanela's Safer Festive Season is in full swing.
The operation leaves no stone unturned to stop cars and check their roadworthiness, expired number plates, stolen cars, drugs, undocumented foreigners and illegal mining activities.
And that is sometimes hard for motorists to do.
A pregnant mother almost gave birth right in the roadblock when she was unexpectedly pulled over for expired licence disc.
It was too much for the mum, who started having complications. An ambulance had to be called to stabilise her.
After she regained her composure, the woman was able to explain to the police that she had renewed her disc but had forgotten to stick it in and remove the old one.

After the roadblocks, the police visited Gabon squatter camp to hold a street imibizo with the aim of strengthening community relations and making the province safer for all.
"The imbizo was part of today's Operation Shanela, which included a multi-disciplinary roadblock and disruptive operations at illegal mining sites in Daveyton," said Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi.
She said the community was given the opportunity to voice their concerns and questions regarding crime in their area, which were answered by the station commander and the acting district commissioner.
Major-General Mthombeni and Major-General Khumalo also addressed the community and encouraged them to co-operate with the police by reporting all criminal activities to the nearest police station.
Nevhuhulwi said on Monday. 13 November an integrated illegal mining operation was conducted by the police and other law enforcement agencies in Crystal Park.
