COPS have bust about 308 suspects from Friday night, 9 February to Sunday morning, 11 February as part of Operation Shanela.
Police spokeswoman, Captain Nelda Sekgobela said this achievement was through relentless efforts by SAPS, Community Policing Forums and other law enforcement agencies in various areas of Ekurhuleni.
"We are pleased that the operation continues to bear fruit," said Ekurhuleni district commissioner, Major-General Anna Sithole.
A total of 308 suspects were arrested for various offences. Sekgobela said among the suspects, 188 were arrested by detectives during a tracing operation which was conducted in Ekurhuleni on Saturday, 10 February.
She said a further total of 119 suspects were nabbed for contact crimes, about 17 for contact related crime, 38 for other serious crimes, five for property crimes and 29 for gender-based violence related issues.
"Other suspects were nabbed during the provincial illegal mining operations which were conducted in Benoni Policing Precinct while others were nabbed during Operations Shanela, which was conducted from Friday afternoon, 9 February," she said.
Sekgobela said a suspect was arrested for possession of dangerous weapons On Friday in the Devon area after he robbed a shop owner of an undisclosed amount of cash.
An off-duty police officer gave chase after the suspect left the shop with the help of community members.
"The suspect was found in possession of a toy gun and the money which was robbed from the shop owner was recovered. In Ivory Park, a school search in one of the secondary schools led to the arrest of three dagga dealers on Friday, while in another incident members of Ekurhuleni North crime intelligence operationalised information in Ivory Park Extension 15 after they received a tip off regarding the suspect who was in possession of unlicensed firearm.

"On arrival at the address, the suspect was found in possession of a Norinco pistol and a toy gun. The suspect was arrested and taken to SAPS Ivory Park for detention," said Sekgobela.
She said in Zonkisizwe, three suspects were arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and six live ammunition after the police received information about the deceased 's firearm that is rented out and believed to commit crimes around Zonkisizwe.
Still in Zonkisizw, a suspect was arrested for possession of a stolen motor vehicle as per Roodepoort case of July 2023.
