POLICE in the North West have arrested a man in connection with the murder of businessman, Ben Gumbi (49).
According to police, members of a multidisciplinary team which was established after the ruthless murder of Gumbi made a breakthrough when they arrested a male suspect on Tuesday, 12 September.
Police spokesman Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said the suspect was arrested in Germiston after attending a court case in which he is facing a charge of armed robbery.
The 33-year-old suspect appeared before the Rustenburg Magistrates Court on Thursday, 14 September.
"He was remanded in custody pending further investigation, and is expected to make a second court appearance on Tuesday, 19 September 2023," said Mokgwabone.

Gumbi was gunned down by two men outside a restaurant in the Rustenburg CBD on Wednesday morning, 23 August.
The suspects then fled the scene with a blue Volkswagen Polo car which was found a few minutes after the incident, abandoned at the Corner of Helen Joseph and Lourie streets.
North West police commissioner Lieutenant-General Sello Kwena applauded the team members for their dedication which led to the arrest.
