A DEDICATED businessman who was passionate about the betterment of his community.
That's how Ben Gumbi was described during his emotional send-off on Wednesday, 30 August.
Friends and family expressed deep pain at how the 49-year-old man was brutally killed.
Mourners who gathered at his home in Ledig, North West, spoke of a committed businessman and how he showed signs of brilliance in everything he touched.
His uncle, Buti Gumbi, said Ben had been passionate about business from an early age.
“He started selling water in the village when people were struggling due to lack of water until he elevated to where he was today. Gumbi valued family and has changed the lives of many people, and this is how we choose to remember him," he said.
The dead man's son, Ntokozo Gumbi, said it was time for them to unite as a family.
Ben's friend, Mokgwari Monnakgotla, said the late businessman was serious about developing his community.
He said people should learn to use social media platforms responsibly, adding that some people were heartless to circulate the footage of Gumbi's death without thinking of his family.

“Let’s honour his memory by making his dream a reality," Mokgwari said.
Kgothatso Sikhonde, a member of the Ledig Business Forum, said he'll remember Ben for his kindness, generosity and warm spirit.
“We are in pain, but Ben's legacy will never die," he said.
Maria Monnakgotla from the Royal house of Bakubung Ba Ratheo in Ledig said Ben did not deserve to die like that.
“He was an innocent man who loved the idea of creating jobs and developing his community."
His business partner, Jacobs Ngakane, said it was never their intention to demolish houses.
He said through proper engagement, the project will have a smooth and peaceful outcome.
“Violence should never be a solution," Jacobs said.
In a touching message read on behalf of his widow, Busisiwe Gumbi described her late partner as a loving husband who always cared for her well-being.
Ben was laid to rest at Ledig Cemetery.
