ALMOST 20 families hit by a violent storm happily received food donations from Titirheleni NGO owner Dan Kubayi on Thursday, 21 December.

Dan and his assistant Alex Mashile were happy to help after receiving a request to come and assist the affected families.

The families were left with nothing from the storm disaster that hit several villages such as Dumphries, MP Stream, Rolle, Hluvukani, Agincourt and Allandale outside Thulamahashe near Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga a week ago.

Kubayi said: "We have tried to go door to door asking for food donations at local shops. Luckily, Roots Butchery in Thulamahashe and Acornhoek shopping mall managed to help us with these wonderful gifts of food to donate to them so they can have Christmas as well. But it's not enough and we're continuing with our requests to other leading retailers and clothing shops."

An unemployed mum of two, Tshembani Mhlongo (37), said Kubayi was a God-sent angel who came to their rescue.

"We're still struggling to fix our homes that were damaged by the violent storm. So, it's not easy. No one is employed here. So, the food made our Christmas. Thank you, Daily Sun, and Kubayi. May God bless you," she said.

Shadrack Nyawuza (48) said:" All food and clothes I had bought with the R350 grant have been damaged by the hailstorm. There are no jobs.”

Single and unemployed mum Carol Nyakane (46), who is now squeezing with her eight kids and two grandchildren in a two-room of her damaged RDP by the storm in MP Stream, was also over the moon after receiving the food.

"I have no words to thank you. This disaster left us with a huge trauma as we spent the last Sassa grant payment of some of my kids buying Christmas food and clothes. But everything was damaged. So, we're going share from these little donations," she said.

Dumphries Induna Solomon Mdluli and the ward committee member, Norman Ubisi, who identified the victims, said: "We are humbly expressing our gratitude to these special gifts. But we're still calling more donors to come forward and donate to the affected families. Many don't have a roof over their heads. Their furniture, valuable items, clothes and food were damaged."
