THE mother (47) of a murder accused believes her son was wrongfully arrested by the cops.

Maggie Mhlanga claimed the cops didn't do their work properly and wishes for a speedy trial to reveal the whole truth.

The depressed Maggie said she now lives in fear as she gets insults and threats.

"I don't believe my son killed the girl. My son was arrested based on rumours. Cops must do their investigation properly. In the community everyone believes my son is the killer.

"I'm now receiving death threats from residents. Whenever they see me, they call me nasty words. They even called an evil person also threatening to burn my house. They say all this because I'm a sangoma. I so wish my son could get bail. I also wish for a speedy trial," she said.

Maggie told Daily Sun that her son and the victim were close friends.

"The girl used to visit my son at home. I regarded her as my daughter because I could see that whenever they were together their relationship was beyond friendship. I also feel the pain that she died brutally," she said.

The formal bail application of murder accused Sibusiso Mhlanga (29) was postponed again in the Kwamhlanga Magistrates Court on Monday, 11 March.

His lawyer said they didn't get an alternative address as part of a very important information in their quest to get bail.

"There was a miscommunication between the accused father and the defence. We only realised that during break time and we considered a postponement. There's no confirmed address for the accused of he gets bail," he said.

The magistrate said she was granting the postponement, and it was for the last time.

"The formal bail application will be back in court on 18 March. We can no longer afford to postpone again. Bail application is urgent and is within the rights of the accused," she said.

Sibusiso is accused of killing and burning Mogau Mashegwana (30) at her house in Moloto Village on 31 March 2023.

He was arrested on 21 February and made his first appearance on 22 February.

The matter has been postponed for the fourth time now.
