PASTOR and Matlosana Local Municipality Ward Councillor Tebogo Sepale (43) appeared in court on Thursday, 24 August.

Sepale appeared in the Orkney Magistrates Court without his lawyer, Attorney Kobus Burger.

According to the state prosecutor, arrangements were made by Burger that he had other matters to attend to and could not be in court on Thursday and asked for a postponement.

As a result, the court decided to postpone the matter to Wednesday, 4 October for further investigations. The accused did not to ask for a plea when he appeared in court.

Sepale is facing eleven provisional charges,
  • two for statutory rape,
  • three for the violation of a child with consent,
  • one for manufacturing pornographic material,
  • four for rape and one for sexual intimidation.

His appearance in court comes from a police report that the Klerksdorp Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) was investigating one case of crimen injuria and two separate cases of statutory rape after they were reported at Kanana cop shop near Orkney.

The court said that in one of the cases, the suspect allegedly shared a nude photo of his private parts with the complainant. In the second, and separate case involving the same suspect, the parents of two boys, aged 15 and 17, had filed two complaints of rape.

Investigations are still underway to gather more evidence against the suspect. The police urged the public not to spread sexual content in any form through any media as this could endanger the victimes and their families, as well as the investigation into this matter.
