THE Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB), Crime Intelligence Counter Narcotics and Gangs, as well as Public Order Policing, announced arrested a 23-year-old man on Saturday 10 September.
He was bust near Somerset West after they confiscated drugs with an estimated street value of R1,3 million.
“This after the team reacted to information about a vehicle suspected to be carrying a consignment of drugs, which was en-route to Cape Town. The information was operationalised with a strategic deployment,” said Hawks spokeswoman Zinzi Hani.
During the operation, the team later pulled over a vehicle on Sir Lowry’s pass direction to Somerset West and conducted a search.
“During the search on the ensued vehicle, members found 33 000 mandrax tablets. The team also seized the vehicle, a silver Mercedes-Benz.
“The suspect is facing a charge of dealing in drugs and will make his first appearance in the Strand Magistrates Court on Monday, 12 September,” said Hani.
