Man bust for 'raping' teen

accreditation

A SPAZA shop owner is behind bars after being charged with the statutory rape of a 14-year-old.

The girl’s furious mum told Daily Sun that she was hoping for the man to rot in jail.

The 38-year-old mum from Kagiso, Mogale City said the trouble started when her daughter’s gogo sent her to the shop in September, and the man decided to take advantage of her.

She said as the victim was leaving, he asked her to come back and she listened to him.

“That was when the suspect took her to the back of the shop and raped her,” said the mum.

As time went by, she noticed that her daughter’s behaviour had changed. She had mood swings and was becoming rebellious.

The girl’s body later started changing, and the mum was horrified when she realised that she was pregnant.

“I was furious and very hurt, especially when she told me who the father was.”

The mum went to Kagiso Police Station and the man was arrested at his shop on Monday, 31 October.

Kagiso police spokesman captain Solomon Sibiya said the suspect appeared in the Kagiso Magistrates Court on Wednesday, facing charges of statutory rape. He was remanded in custody. He will appear in court again on 10 November.
