TWO robbers were nabbed by brave pensioners
eThekwini at a post office in Lamontville on Wednesday, 2 November.
According to police spokeswoman Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala, it is alleged three armed men entered the post office and held up the staff in full view of pensioners.
“There were about 200 elderly people who waited patiently for their pension payouts when the gunmen entered and held up the staff. At gunpoint, they forced the manager and staff to open the safe and stole two bags containing cash,” Gwala said in a statement.
She said a group of pensioners gathered and chased the suspects and managed to apprehend two men.
“Unfortunately, the suspect. who was carrying the cash and had a firearm, managed to flee into the bushes.”
She said no shots were fired and no injuries reported.
The suspects, aged 26 and 28, were arrested by cops and will appear in the Durban Magistrates Court on Friday, 4 November on charges of business robbery.
