They pretended as if they were R350 grant recipients while they wanted to rob a post office.
Nine people including two cops ran out of luck after they just robbed a post office in Maccassar near Khayelitsha on Wednesday afternoon.
The suspects who were driving a grey Polo sedan arrived at the Post Office and entered as if they wanted some help.
All of a sudden pointed guns at the employees and ordered them to lie on the floor. They ransacked the Post Office and managed to steal an undisclosed amount of cash. They also stole phones from the employees.
The robbers ran out of luck as there were City of Cape Town law enforcement in the area who gave chase and busted nine robbers. After the arrest, a further investigation showed that two of the robbers were cops attached to Western Cape Flying Squad. Both cops stay in Mfuleni kasi.
Cops spokesman Sergeant Wesley Twigg said nine suspects aged between 21 and 47 were arrested and detained on a charge of business robbery and will make a court appearance once they have been charged.
“In response to your media inquiry this office can confirm that Macassar police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a business robbery which was perpetrated yesterday afternoon at about 15:30 at a post office in Hospital Street in Macassar. The suspects fled the scene with electronic equipment and an undisclosed amount of cash,” he said.
“Further investigation into this case discovered that two of the suspects are SAPS members. The investigation into the matter continues,” he added.
