TRANSNET Freight Rail (TFR) derailed at Hercules in Pretoria North on Wednesday, 16 August.
This led to the temporary suspension of the Metrorail Train service operating between Mabopane and Ga-Rankuwa in Tshwane.
According to Gauteng Metrorail spokeswoman Lillian Mofokeng, the TFR goods train no 1410 derailed at Hercules in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Mofokeng urged commuters travelling on the Mabopane and Dewildt lines to seek alternative transport until further notice as technical teams are clearing the accident scene to allow safe movement of trains.
She said Gauteng Metrorail Management apologised to commuters and employers for the inconvenience.

"No fatalities The accident scene is not cleared, and we will announce soon," said Mofokeng.
Train commuter Tebogo Shai (50) said she would struggle to return home from the Pretoria CBD.
"Trains are our only means of transport and are cheap. We were happy that there were no problems like before, but we can't do anything because it’s an accident," she said.
Another commuter, Josephine Mabunda (27), said: "We hope they will clear the scene as soon as possible and get the line back to normal. We need the train back because we don't have money."
