Hawks spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi said a 39-year-old man was arrested in Peddie, Eastern Cape earlier on Thursday, 16 November.

“The continued efforts by the Hawks in resolving the murder of Loyiso Mabandla bore fruit when they arrested a 39-year-old suspect in Peddie in the Eastern Cape.

Hawks arrested Zukisa Tshabile (38) on 27 October before arresting another suspect Mziyanda Mdlungu (38) in Katlehong in Gauteng on Monday, 13 November.

He appeared in Pretoria Central Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 14 November. Mdlungu will appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court on Monday, 20 November 2023.

Loyiso’s widow Nyameka KwaLunga Mabandla said from the information that she has, the arrested person is the mastermind behind the death of her husband.

“The mastermind arrested will appear in East London Magistrate Court tomorrow. He will also appear in Athlone Magistrates Court on Monday,” said Nyameka.

On the first appearance of Tshabile, the state said the mastermind behind Loyiso’s murder was a security company owner. He was linked to Tshabile through cellphone and bank records.

On the day of the incident, Loyiso and other people had a meeting at the Philippi Train Station where four gunmen opened fire at them just after a prayer.

Three other people were rushed to hospital and survived but Loyiso died at the scene. It is alleged that one of the suspects returned to finish Loyiso off at close range after realising he was still alive.
