WITH the final matric exams drawing near, the Shiviti Traditional Council in Giyani, Limpopo has issued a warning to residents and tavern owners to stop playing loud music.
The exams will start on Monday, 30 October and end on Tuesday, 5 December.
A 21-year-old matric pupil at Hanyani Thomo High School said she believes a quiet study environment will be beneficial, especially because their area doesn't have a library.
“They should not play loud music because this opportunity is very important for our lives. Some of us cannot study with loud music," she said.

Smile Shiviti, chairman of the traditional council, said they have observed an improvement in previous pass rate since they started warning tavern owners against playing loud music.
“Despite the fact that some comply during exams, some are stubborn, so we called a community meeting with them before the final exams.
“As the traditional council, we believe it's a period when pupils, especially grade 12s, need to focus, concentrate and have a peaceful environment to study," he said.
Limpopo Education MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya said she is confident that the class of 2023 will perform better than the previous ones.
“It's that time of year when we, the Limpopo community, need to support our grade 12 pupils, the class of 2023. We also ask business owners and taxi drivers to work with us by being quiet so pupils have enough time to study," she said.
