ANOTHER Joburg building has caught fire.
The building on the corner Kapteijn and Claim Street in Hillbrow caught fire on Tuesday afternoon, 24 October, leaving a one-bedroom flat destroyed.
When the Daily Sun team went to the building, they learnt that the fire had destroyed a flat, with all the furniture inside.
The fire also spread to the opposite flat, destroying the door and leaving the furniture covered in flames.
Charity Peterson (49) said she was grateful to be alive.
"I was at my workplace in Midrand when my husband called me and informed me that they had run out of plans on what to do since there was a fire outbreak at our neighbour’s flat. The fire had crossed over to our flat. He instructed me to come back home," said Charity.
The distraught Charity explained how she ran from work to catch a bus home.

"I ran on foot and then caught a bus. When I got here, I found that the firefighters had extinguished the fire. Everything inside my house is damaged," she said.
She said she doesn’t understand why this had to happen now but is grateful for life since no one was injured, and no fatalities were reported.
Charity's daughter Margaret Peterson (17) said the fire incident had taken away her joy.
"I'm in matric and have exams to write next week. How will I study with all my books having burnt down due to the fire. Why did all this have to happen now?” said sobbing Margaret.
"I'm distraught. Final exams are starting next week. I've been busy with revision and now I’m totally displaced. I can’t get myself together because we must fix everything."
EMS spokeswoman Xolile Khumalo said that EMS Firefighters responded to a fire incident in Hillbrow on Tuesday, 24 October, at 3.50pm.
"The firefighters promptly extinguished the fire before it could spread to other floors. A one-bedroom apartment on the 6th floor was affected. No injuries were reported. Fire inspectors were on the scene conducting investigations," said Khumalo.
