FOR madala Mulatedzi Jiwana (82), owning an RDP house is a big dream.

The madala from Mpheni in Limpopo has been waiting for an RDP house for years.

He lives in a dilapidated, cracked two-roomed house and desperately asks Good Samaritans or the government for help.

Despite numerous attempts to apply for an RDP house since 1999, the madala has still not received any response.

Daily Sun visited the madala and he expressed his frustration with his living conditions, which are often uncomfortable and unpredictable due to the leaking roof and unstable structure.

"I beg anyone or any organisation to rescue me before I die because I no longer understand who the government is building the RDP houses for. I feel like a forgotten person, even though I voted for the ANC, because I tried several times to get a house, but I was left like this, with my mud house," he said.

After his previous wife left him a few years ago, he longs for a house and a partner with whom he can share his life.

"I may be old, but I am looking for a wife who will support me and look after me," he said.

One of his neighbours, Tiny Nkuna, expressed concern about Mulatedzi's safety, especially during windy and rainy weather when the stability of the house is further compromised.

"We would love to see him get a proper house. We even helped him kill a snake in his house once and it seems unsafe for him to live alone," she said.

David Ndou, a ward councillor, claimed that he knew nothing about the condition of Mulatedzi's  house.

"We will visit him to check on his house and if there is a need, we will put him on the priority list of people who need a house," he said.
