Many mashonisa rushed to the ATMs to grab grants, on Thursday, 4 August.

But they brought attention to themselves when the Springs mall management noticed some mashonisas spent more time withdrawing.

Sergeant Themba Tshabalala of Springs police station said when management investigated they discovered withdrawals were made from a bunch of Sassa cards.

They informed the police.

Police came under cover and 31 mashonisas were bust today at Springs mall.

Sergeant Tshabalala said one female mashonisa was found with 75 Sassa cards and with R18650 cash in her possession.

And to make matters worse all these mashonisa were not registered.

They are aged between 19 and 50.

The owners of the cards were not there as the cards are always in the possession of the mashonisas.

Sassa was also called the mall and it condemned the behaviour.

Sassa Gauteng spokeswoman Nandi Modi's said they condemn the behaviour by Sassa recipients.

"The grant is to help people survive and we encourage people to live within their means. Going mashonisas is unacceptable as most of them are not even registered."

The official from National Credit Regulations board was also there and he discouraged Sassa recipients from using loan sharks.

Sergeant Tshabalala said the mashonisas who are charged with possession, Sassa Act and National Credit Act will appear in court this week.
