ACTING Judge Rochelle Francis-Subbiah is ready to be a full-time judge.
Francis-Subbiah told the interviewing panel of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on Thursday, 6 October, at Melrose Arch, that her acting stints had prepared and given her the necessary competency for the position.
“At this stage, I’m ready and mature enough to deal with the workload,” she said.
Francis-Subbiah started out as a legal secretary and later became a magistrate, a position she held for over 20 years.
Her book, Taxation of Legal Costs, is declared the “Bible” on the subject.
Acting judge and regional Magistrate Mudunwazi Makamu told the JSC that none of his judgments had ever been overturned by the Supreme Court of Appeal.

“Whenever I have written a judgment, I have the confidence in senior judges and request them to sit with me and critique it,” he said.
Makamu has been a magistrate since 1985 and holds four law degrees.
He started out as an interpreter in Limpopo.
Advocate John Holland-Muter SC was grilled for lack of commitment to transformation.
However, Holland-Muter said it depended on the type of cases one was allocated.
He added that he had briefed black juniors, and would sometimes help black lawyers for free with their matters.
