A NEIGHBOUR in the Nateniel Julies murder trial took the stand in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court in Joburg on Wednesday, 5 October.
Tasmine Kaldine told the court that she heard a “single loud bang” and saw a tall police officer pick up Nateniel.
She said she was home watching TV when she heard the bang and went to investigate.
Tasmine said when she got to the front door, she met her daughter, Tahirah, who told her that someone had been shot.
“When I asked who got shot, she said it was Nateniel,” said Tasmine.
The defence attorney attempted to dismiss Tasmine’s evidence, arguing that she couldn’t help the court as she didn’t see what happened and her evidence was based on hearsay.
The argument was dismissed.
Tasmine said she saw what happened after the shooting.
She said: “While standing at the door, I saw a police officer approach the truck and bend down looking for something.
“I then saw him pick up a person.”
Nateniel (16), who had down syndrome, was shot a few metres away from his home in Eldorado Park, south of Joburg, in 2020.
Three cops, Scorpion Ndyalvane, Caylene Whiteboy and Voster Netshiongolo, are standing trial for his murder.
The trial is being heard for the second time before a new judge.

This comes after Judge Ramarumo Monama’s death.
Tahirah had previously testified that she saw a shot fired from the back window of a police van when she was outside her neighbour’s gate.
Whiteboy is accused of pulling the trigger.
The court further heard that Whiteboy will testify that she fired the shot to scare away the deceased, and that she wasn’t aware that the shotgun had ammunition because it was earlier used to disperse the crowd with rubber bullets.
