The human toll of the raging war in Gaza is mounting.

Israel has killed one child in Gaza every 10 minutes, According to Save the Children, an organisation founded 100 years ago that advocates for the rights of children worldwide. Israel Defence Forces have killed at least 10 022 people in Gaza, including 4104 children, since 7 October, the Gaza health ministry and the United Nations reported.

Tuesday, 7 November, marked one month since the onslaught against the people of Palestine began following a Hamas attack in Kibbutz Be'eri in Israel. Hamas militants killed more than 1400 people that day. Israel's death toll has climbed to 1538 since 7 October, Israel's public broadcaster KAN said.

Daily Sun looks back at the terrifying deaths, ghastly destruction and the human toll of the ongoing war.

Here are 10 things you need to know about the ongoing war in Gaza:

1. At least 11 660 people have been killed in Gaza and Israel since 7 October.

2. Civilian deaths in one month of Israeli attacks on Gaza top the entire Russia-Ukraine war toll of 9 806 in Ukraine since 24 February 2022.

3. 36 journalists have been killed in Gaza since 7 October 2023 – the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), a New York-based press freedom union said - making it one of the deadliest war zones to work in.

4. A total of 16 of Gaza's 35 hospitals have been forced to suspend operations due to low fuel supplies.

5. More than 1.5 million people, which is more than half of Gaza's population, have been displaced, according to the United Nation.

6. The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution calling for an "immediate, durable and sustained humanitarian truce" between Israeli forces and Hamas militants in Gaza on 26 October 2023. With 121 votes in favour, 14 against and 44 abstentions, a ceasefire is yet to be realised.

7. More than 240 hostages have been captured by Hamas and held in Gaza since 7 October, according to the UN. Hamas' armed wing says more than 60 hostages are missing due to Israel's indiscriminate bombing of Gaza.

8. Israel has one of the world's most powerful militaries, bolstered by more than $3.8bn of military aid a year from the US.

9. Last Thursday, the United States House of Representatives approved a nearly $14.5 billion military aid package Thursday for Israel.

10. South Africa has recalled its three diplomats in Israel. Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni said: "A genocide under the watch of the international community cannot be tolerated."
