SOME schools in Ekurhuleni have a problem with undocumented pupils.
And these undocumented pupils are not from foreign countries.
The children were born and raised in Mzansi, and the problem is that their parents did not take IDs for them.
Deputy principal Phindi Maseko from Zimisele Secondary School said: "We mostly experience this problem with parents who are South Africans. Children who enroll for matric often write but do not get their matric certificates because they don't have IDs."
This came to light during Gauteng Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko's visit to Zimisele Secondary in KwaThema. The MEC promised to liaise with Home Affairs.
"We have relations with the Department of Home Affairs. Officials will come to the school to help the learners."

The MEC said he was concerned about teenage pregnancies at the school.
Maseko said most of the pregnant teenagers came from disadvantaged backgrounds.
But despite the challenges, Zimisele is one of the best performing schools in KwaThema.
The MEC also visited Nkumbulo and Langaville secondary schools.
The pupils also received stationery, school shoes and backpacks. More than 13 million pupils have registered for the first term of the 2024 school year.
For the first time in 2024, all schools opened and will close at the same time.
