PARENTS are in a frenzy with last minute school shopping.

All this in preparation for the reopening of schools on Wednesday, 17 January.

On Monday, 15 January, scores of parents from Tembisa in Ekurhuleni gathered at Phumlani Mall to buy school uniform and stationer.

Most parents said they preferred to prepare school uniform early.

Aluwani Nephalama (40) from Ebony in Tembisa said there has been a long queue at City Style shop, where she buys school uniform for her daughter, adding that she had to queue for about an hour.

"I prefer to buy uniform today as my child is now going to secondary school this year. I encourage other parents to buy school uniform on time before it's finished, said Aluwani.

Another parent, Thandiwe Mphela (46) from Winnie Mandela zone 10, said City Style Shop is the only nearby shop which sells uniforms.

"I'm worried as prices may have increased. I wonder if the money I have with me will be enough for everything”, she said.

Patrick Malinga (44) encouraged men to ensure they played their part as fathers to ensure their kids' educational needs were met.

"The education of our children is important, and we all need to play our role as fathers, uncles, and parents," he said.

City Style shop manager Razia Loonat said they supplied 15 schools with school uniforms in the area.

She said in the past five days, many customers have flocked to their shop.

"We've been operating here for the past 20 years. We have two shops. One is in Ivory Park and another at Winnie Mandela. Besides operating the business in these areas, we also give back to the community by donating school uniforms to schools around our area," said Razia.
