RESIDENTS of Phuthaditjhaba in the Free State were left traumatised after witnessing a horrific incident.

This after two men stabbed a known man to death in broad daylight on Monday, 15 January.

The incident occurred near Phuthaditjhaba park, not far from the cop shop.

According to witnesses, the fight started in the morning when the deceased stabbed one of the guys in a fight.

The guy fled and came back with two men who stabbed the deceased to death.

A 36-year-old community member said: “I was on my way home when two men attacked the deceased. We witnessed the horrific incident from the start until the end. The deceased was in a fight using his knife, but they overpowered him before leaving the scene.

"His blood was all over in the street. Underage children saw the traumatic scene where the body was lying on the streets for hours before being collected by the forensic people."

Free State police spokesman Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring said the deceased was identified by of the bystanders as a 35-year-old man from Letshalemaduke Village in Qwaqwa.

"Police attended a complaint about a person lying helpless in the street nearby Phuthaditjhaba park surrounded by group community members. He is about 35 years old and was wearing blue jeans and a white T-shirt. He had blood stains on the face and body,” he said.

Mophiring said the man had multiple stab wounds on the chest and on the back.

"It's not yet clear what could have been the motive behind the killing," he said.

Mophiring said a case of murder has been opened at Phuthaditjhaba cop shop, and the deceased's identity will be disclosed once the next of kin positively identifies him.
