THE family of a 62-year-old slain retired teacher, who was killed by her son at her home in Riverside, QwaQwa, has welcomed the Free State High court judgment.
The highly anticipated judgment has healed a long overdue wound in the hearts of gogo Modiehi Moekona's 26-year-old daughter, her husband Motsumi Mokoena (65) and uncle Mohlomi khodumo, as well as the residents.
Uncle Mohlomi told Daily Sun he was thankful to the justice system for keeping his "cruel" nephew, Teboho Mokoena, in custody until his pre-trial which sent him to prison for life.
Mohlomi said the family had reached an agreement to disown Mokoena.
"Even if he would qualify for parole after serving a jail term, we don't want him. We can't welcome a monster within the family. He broke our hearts. The life of his younger sister won't be safe in his presence.

"He also tried to kill his father by stabbing him with a knife on the neck. He brutalised our innocent sister, who worked hard to raise him and sent him to expensive private schools," he said.
Mohlomi also said Mokoena had abused his mother for a long time, demanding R5 000 every month to buy drugs.
"He was once told the family that his dream is to kill his mother. We took it as a joke, not knowing he meant it. Our sister was a God-fearing woman. She was a respected person in the township. She didn't deserve to be murdered in such horrific manner. Her death has left her daughter with forgettable trauma," he said.
Gogo Modiehi was murdered in June 2021. Her head, legs and hands were cut off and put in a plastic bag.
Women organisations have marched several times to the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrates Court to demand that Mokoena must not to be released under any circumstances.
