THE man who brutally murdered his mother, chopped her body into pieces and put them in a plastic bag was sentenced to life imprisonment.
The Free State High Court found Teboho Abraham Mokoena (32) guilty of murder, attempted, and malicious damage to property, and sentenced him on Thursday, 19 October.
The gruesome discovery of the mutilated body of retired teacher gogo Modiehi Mokoena (62) was made by her husband in the garage at her home in Riverside, QwaQwa, in June 2021.
Teboho made several appearances at Phuthaditjhaba Magistrates Court, playing delaying tactics about legal representatives.
During his first appearance, he submitted to the court that he didn't want a lawyer, but things changed towards a bail hearing.
The family of the deceased pleaded for a harsh sentence for the accused on numerous occasions.
Teboho was described as a dangerous person who deserved a long jail term.

When Daily Sun had an exclusive interview with his uncle Mohlomi Khodumo, he cried foul about the regular postponements.
The investigating officer, Tshidiso Maleme, had submitted during the bail hearing that gogo Modiehi’s head, legs and hands were cut and stuffed into a plastic bag.
He said her body was found with a stab wound on the chest.
The murder weapons, which included a butcher knife, saw and look-alike knife, were found hidden under the couch in the dining room.
Apart from murdering his mother, Teboho also stabbed his father several times.
He was handed a life sentence for murder, six months imprisonment for malicious damage to property and five years for attempted murder.
NPA spokesman Phaladi Shuping has also welcomed the sentence.
