The four women linked to Prince Lethukuthula Zulu were sentenced to five years imprisonment for theft.

Tshegofatso Moremane, Margaret Koaile, Portia Mmola, and Gontse Tlhoele appeared in the Joburg High Court on Thursday, 30 November.

The four women were facing charges of stealing money, a laptop, a cellphone, a blanket, bath soap, toilet paper, and cutlery.

Handing down the sentencing, Judge Moleboheng Mdalana-Mayisela said accused, one, two, and four were the first offenders, while accused three, Koaile, was sentenced to six months in prison for robbery.

However, she said she won't consider the previous case because it happened 20 years ago.

She said the four accused didn't show remorse, and they committed the crime out of greed, not that they needed the items they stole from the late Prince Lethukuthula Zulu and his friend and business partner, Nkosi Msimang.

Msimang suffered a lot due to the incident after his laptop and R60 000 stolen, which belonged to him and the late Prince Lethukuthula.

"Some of the money stolen was supposed to be given to the deceased's son, and Msimang had to move from his rented place because he couldn't afford it; he ended up living in a tent in Mpumalanga," said Judge Mdalana-Mayisela

She said the sentence must serve as a warning to the would-be criminals.

"People should not be afraid to go out and have fun because of fear of being robbed.

"The accused are sentenced to five years imprisonment of which one-year six months is suspended on condition that the accused is not convicted of theft or any offence involving the element of dishonestly during the period of suspensions," Judge Mdalana-Mayisela said.

In August, the court acquitted the four accused of Zulu's murder and possession of drugs but found them guilty of theft.

The four accused were arrested on 20 November 2020.

Zulu was found dead by security guards at his home in a residential complex at Northwold in Johannesburg on 6 November, 2020. He died of a cocaine overdose, postmortem results show.

This was revealed during the cross-examination of investigating officer Sergeant Mokwena Mojapelo.
