FOUR suspects will appear in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates Court on Monday, 8 April.

They are facing a charge of murder in which a 33-year-old woman was shot dead in Vanderbijlpark, Vaal on Friday, 5 April.

Among those arrested is a doctor who is said to be the dead woman's ex-husband.

According to Gauteng police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo, the woman was found in a car.

"On Friday, at about 8am, police responded to a complaint of a shooting on Hendrik van Eck Boulevard in Vanderbijlpark. When police arrived at the scene, they found the woman, who was sitting in the driver's seat of a Nissan NP200 Bakkie, with multiple gunshot wounds to her body. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman was shot by suspects driving a Honda FRV motor vehicle,” he said.

Masondo said a task team was assigned to trace and arrest the suspects.

"The police immediately formed a task team consisting of the Sedibeng District Trio Task Team, Tactical Response Team, K9, Tracking Team and the Provincial Crime Intelligence to track down and arrest the suspects," Masondo said.

"Through intelligence-led investigation, information led the team to Kliprivier, Sebokeng, Sharpeville and Vereeniging, where four suspects were apprehended. Police also recovered a firearm and a vehicle used in the commission of the crime."

Gauteng police commissioner Lieutenant-General Tommy Mthombeni commended the Sedibeng District Police and Provincial Crime Intelligence for their prompt and diligent work to ensure the suspects were arrested.

"I'm pleased with the manner in which the team handled this investigation and the quick response in arresting the suspects. Gender-based violence remains a top priority for Gauteng police. The suspects will be brought to justice for the gruesome murder of a woman," Mthombeni said.
