HUNDREDS of Soweto residents gathered at Jabulani Mall on Thursday afternoon, 25 April, for a meet and greet with former ANC president Thabo Mbeki.
On his campaign trail, Mbeki aimed to rally support for the ANC before the upcoming elections in May.
Mbeki, who has been with the ANC for many years, reaffirmed his unwavering support for the party.
"I've always been a member of the ANC and have never doubted my allegiance," he told the media.
Addressing the crowd, Mbeki said: "People of Soweto, I urge you to vote for the ANC on 29 May. It is the only organisation I acknowledge and support."

Despite acknowledging the myriad of issues facing South Africa, Mbeki assured the public that these concerns are being addressed, although it's amid internal party conflicts.
"There are wrongdoers within the party, even thieves donning ANC T-shirts. We must eliminate such elements," he said.
Mbeki's interaction with the mall-goers bolstered his confidence in resolving Soweto's challenges if they voted for the ANC.
"This booklet symbolises my appeal to Soweto to choose ANC. The positive response has been overwhelming, and it reassures our commitment to rectify the problems within the ANC and fulfil our duties to the populace," Mbeki.
