COLLEEN Makhubele has big plans for South Africa.

Despite being fired by Cope leader Mosiuoa Lekota in November 2023, Makhubele said she has forgiven him because she is a Christian.

She said she loved Lekota as he had given her an opportunity to occupy the highest position in the City of Joburg.

She said his party introduced her to politics, which she'd forever be grateful for. The former Joburg speaker said after being expelled, there was a new dawn as she had now formed her own political party called South African Rainbow Alliance (Sara).

"I want to recruit professional young people to join politics. Sara is here to say, 'Let's stand up and take our future into our own hands'," she said.

She said gogos and mkhulus above the age of 75 in government must go home and rest. She said they must pass their knowledge and experience on to young people while sitting at home.

"Politics must become a proper profession that is regulated and governed," said Makhubele.

She said even the ANC must have a succession plan and give young people the opportunity to bring change.

"We need young blood, fresh ideas, and innovative ideas," she said.

She said the elderly people in the governing party in government were not offering anything.

Makhubele, who's originally from Giyani in Limpopo, is armed with several academic qualifications, including computer scientist which she studied in Malaysia.

The businesswoman based in Joburg said the reason she was in politics was because of the experience she had.

"I understand the government is the only tool that can change the lives of our people. As a young woman, people will demand you to compromise your moral values to get ahead. When you say no, they close your businesses.

"Men abuse young women who are ambitious because they have nowhere else to go. I want the mothers to know that under our leadership we will not allow that. Some of us were denied opportunities because we don't want to sleep around with them, and I am educated. I must be able to have an opportunity," she said.

Furthermore, she said corporate is closing out doors for young black people because of skin colour.

Makhubele said Sara was a non-racial and non-discriminating rainbow party.

"We are calling on President Cyril Ramaphosa to bring the elections forward, not to postpone them. We need elections today so that we can change the system," she said.

Ofentse Moalusi, the national chairman of Sara said: "We want good service delivery and to change political perception."

He said he didn't hate the ANC as it is a better coalition partner than the DA.
