KHAYELITSHA residents are in shock after former Chippa United and Royal AM coach Mike Lukhubene was shot and killed at a soccer field on Sunday, 11 June.
After a match, the coach and another man were shot while walking to their car.
It’s alleged that Lukhubene was walking to his car when he was accosted by two men who fired shots, killing him and the other man instantly.
The incident happened in front of many people since it was a huge provincial tournament which the coach was attending.
“The coach and the other man were walking to the car when two men shot at them. People ran away when the gunshots went off, but the guys went close to the coach and the other man and shot them at close range while they were on the ground. He was shot in the head, and it looks like they wanted them dead,” said a witness.
Khayelitsha Development Forum (KDF) chairman Ndithini Tyhido condemned the shooting of the coach.
