FRIENDS and family of the late Eusebius McKaiser have bid their final goodbyes to the popular journalist, political commentator and radio presenter.
His funeral was held at The Settlers Monument in Makanda, Eastern Cape on Saturday, 10 June.
The service started with the viewing of his body, his family and friends lined up to see him one last time.
Most people, including radio and TV presenter, Oliver Dickson who spoke first on the programme, described him as a compassionate person.
“I want to talk about Eusebius’ compassion because that’s what I want everyone to hold on to in his afterlife. Eusebius was incredibly passionate. He cared not on a shallow level, but deeply for those he cared for. He was always available for those he cared for and for the things he cared for, meaningful things.
“He was available to me in moments of weakness in my life when I just needed a friend to talk to. He was available for initiatives which sometimes sit outside of our comfort, and he taught me how to care for those things,” he said.

Family spokesperson, Deon Hulbert said Eusebius grew up as a quiet child and they didn’t think he would be this famous around the country.
“After Euby’s passing, I was given the honour of liaising with the media because the family was distraught, which I understand. A number of questions were asked, one of which was how he was a child. The response that I gave was ‘he was quiet, he had his nose in the books and even more spectacular for me, he never got a hiding as a child.’
“We saw now during his memorial service when all the celebrities were talking about him, we never knew he was that big. We knew he was famous due to his political commentary and the books he wrote. But we never knew he was a rockstar because that is what we witnessed throughout the day he passed on. We will miss him,” Deon said.
He said Eusebius was always there for his family.
He was there at all family gatherings. He was there when the family needed assistance with funerals, birthdays, and graduations which were close to his heart because he was a motivator of the young ones in the family,” he said.
