RAPE continues without any signs of slowing down.

Kasi women believe only the Holy Spirit can conquer the evil spirit in perpetrators.

On Sunday, 10 September after a woman was gang-raped, women from Etwatwa in Ekurhuleni came together to pray.

Sisters in Prayer is a group that was formed in Etwatwa to pray against rape and other social ills in the kasi.

On Sunday, the sisters prayed for the rapists to be caught and to repent and gave support to the victim.

The victim and her sister were asleep on Saturday night, 9 September when rapists pounced on her.

The victim said she was shocked to see a man standing next to her bed, and she couldn't fight for herself as the man sprayed her with pepper spray in her eyes to weaken her.

The suspects allegedly raped her before disappearing into the darkness of the night on Saturday, 9 September.

"There were two suspects and they broke open the window burglar and used a wire from the washing line to pull out the key from the door to gain entry," said one sister.

She said the incident happened just after midnight on Saturday in Citicorner, Etwatwa.

"We noticed later in the morning that they cut a piece of wire from the washing line to use to pull the key from the door handle," said the sister.

The following morning, the victim went to Etwatwa Police Station to open a case.

The victim's older sister said her sibling is traumatised by the incident.

"She's living in fear because the suspects might know her, but she doesn't," the sister said.

The sister suspects the perpetrators are people who had information about them.

"They came looking for a laptop and only to find it's with the owner," she said.

She said when they couldn't find what they wanted, they took a plasma TV and R450 cash and before leaving, they raped her sister.

On Sunday morning, 10 September, the Sisters in Prayer came together to hold a prayer service.

Pastor Masechaba Mngomezulu said the neighborhood prayer group was started to fight the social ills in our community.

"We believe it is only through prayers that God will eliminate all our troubles. We urge other women to join in because it is only when we come together and call His name that God can conquer this scourge of gender-based violence for all of us," she said.

Captain Nelda Sekgobela confirmed Etwatwa police are investigating a rape case.
