VILLAGERS are reeling in shock after six armed men gang raped five women and injured seven men.

The incident happened in Ga-Mathabatha, outside Lebowakgomo in Limpopo on Sunday.

The gang first abducted two women along the R37 and took them to a funeral parlour where they shot and wounded a male employee.

They then proceeded to Wisani Burial Society with the women. They broke the solar power unit of the electric fence and went to the sleeping quarters of three female and six male employees. They severely assaulted the men with the butts of their guns until the men lost consciousness.

Limpopo police spokesman Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said they gang raped the five women, robbed them of their cellphones and other belongings and took the funeral parlour’s safe before fleeing.

“We are investigating five counts of rape, kidnapping, attempted murder and business robbery. No arrests have been made yet,” he said.

“We are analysing DNA samples and arrests are imminent.”

During a TV interview, Wisani manager Rodney Madike said three victims were still in a critical condition in hospital.

“No one can ever expect something like this to happen and they are still in shock and angry,” he said.

A villager (46) said: “This is shocking and very shameful. We thought a mortuary was supposed to be a respected environment.”

Other villagers said they were living in fear.
