AFTER a 21-year-old student was allegedly raped, she turned to the police for help.

Her cries landed on deaf ears when officials at the Joburg Central Police allegedly turned her away because she could not recall the registration number of the car her attackers were driving in. She said she could not open a case and was forced to bear the pain as her rapists continued to roam the streets.

“They were the first people I ran to for help. I expected them to help me but instead I was turned away, by a woman. Someone I thought would have compassion, see me as her own child and jump at the situation but she turned me away. That hurt me, because she could not feel my pain as a woman,” the woman told the SunTeam during a visit to her home a week after the tragic incident.
