A SUSPECT (37) from Daveyton in Ekurhuleni has been arrested for allegedly stealing money from a mastandi.

According to Ekurhuleni Metro Police spokeswoman Lieutenant-Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, the mastandi (36) alleged that on Thursday, 29 February, she was outside her house when a woman came to visit one of her tenants.

"The complainant asked the woman where she was going and who she was looking for. The woman responded by stating that she was visiting one of the tenants in the yard.

"The landlord then let her pass when suddenly the complainant heard a loud sound and saw one of his tenants jumping the fence and running away," she said.

Thepa said the mastandi was wondering what had happened and decided to go to check.

She said when she went inside the house, the woman who came to visit one of the tenants walked past her.

"The landlord headed to the house and realised that her cellphone and R3 000 in cash were missing, which were hidden under the pillow.

"The landlord then went to open a case of theft at Daveyton Police Station," Thepa said.

She said EMPD officers located the tenant and was arrested at Barwa Street in Daveyton and detained at Daveyton cop shop.

Thepa said that at this stage, it's not clear if the woman who visited a tenant is an accomplice to the crime, and the matter is still under investigation.
