THE DA wants former president Jacob Zuma back in prison as soon as possible.
The party said it had urged the national commissioner of correctional services to make a "swift, constitutional, and lawful" decision on Zuma’s return to prison.
This follows last week’s Constitutional Court ruling confirming that Zuma's early release from prison on medical parole was unlawful.
The court dismissed a Department of Correctional Services application for leave to appeal the earlier Supreme Court of Appeal’s (SCA) ruling on the issue.
But the former president is still in Russia where he is receiving medical attention, the Jacob Zuma Foundation said.
DA shadow minister of justice and constitutional development, Advocate Glynnis Breytenbach, said the party had noted that former president Zuma had extended his stay in Russia.

She suggested that Zuma had done this in anticipation of having to go back to jail.
“The uncertainty which now surrounds the details of former president Zuma’s return to prison is causing anxiety across the nation and must be brought to an end without further delay," said Breytenbach.
“There is an urgent need for Zuma to return to jail after he was found to have been in contempt of the Constitutional Court. The rule of law applies to all in South Africa, and Zuma’s return to prison is essential for restoring full confidence in our judiciary and the principle of equality before the law,” she said.
Breytenbach said the DA would be writing to the national commissioner of correctional services to urge him to act swiftly in making the decision.
Jacob Zuma Foundation spokesman Mzwanele Manyi has confirmed that Zuma had not returned from Moscow, adding that he did not know when the former president would be coming back.
