DEFENCE lawyer Attorney Sipho Ramosepele for accused one and two in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial is set to begin with his cross-examination of the state witness on Thursday, 20 July, in the North Gauteng High Court.
The cross-examination was expected to begin on Wednesday, 19 July, after lunch, but state prosecutor Advocate George Baloyi requested an early adjournment, citing that his witness, Zandie Khumalo, was struggling to continue due to some psychological issues.
He said there were some problems with Zandie’s accommodations in her stay in Joburg, and that has affected her.
But when questioned by the court about what was wrong with her, Zandie said she had chest pain.
The state has promised the court that there won’t be any more delays after the judge gave them a stern warning that these are the sort of issues he won’t tolerate.
The state brought in Zandie, who initially stays in Kwa-Zulu Natal, to stay in Gauteng for the duration of her testimony.
The state is liable for her accommodation.

Meanwhile, Singer Kelly Khumalo’s attorney Magdalene Moonsamy had pulled out from the high-profile case.
Moonsamy made her appearance in court last year when the case was presided by the suspended Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela as Kelly’s watching brief.
But she was told to leave the court, as the singer was part of the people expected to testify in the later stage of the trial.
The reason for her pulling out is still unknown at this stage.
