GAUTENG cops have launched a manhunt for a gang of cash-in-transit (CIT) heist robbers.
This after security guards fought back to protect the money on the N12 west near Eldorado Park, Joburg on Wednesday, 27 March.
National police spokeswoman Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said according to a preliminary report, the suspects rammed into a cash van with a white Mercedes-Benz and attempted to bomb the van.
"The suspects allegedly then disarmed the guards and fled the scene only with the guards' firearms, a rifle and handgun. The suspects fled in the direction of Protea Glen, Soweto in three cars, a grey Mazda CX3, a silver Mitsubishi, and a silver Renault Sandero," she said.

Mathe said investigations were immediately activated to trace and arrest the group of suspects.
Joburg Metro Police Department spokesman, Superintendent Xolani Fihla, said traffic was redirected to the Golden Highway.
"The 12 West in Eldorado Park is currently closed off to traffic, and vehicles are being diverted at Golden Highway. This is due to an attempted cash-in-transit heist near Klipspruit Valley Road K43, and it's understood that no money was taken at the crime scene," Fihla said.
