VIOLENCT crimes in South Africa are robbing precious communities of their peace and safety, leaving a trail of devastation.
The Dobsonville community in Soweto is mourning the death of Dr Michael Isabelle after he was brutally shot at his practice on Monday afternoon, 24 February. He suffered blows to his head, chest and stomach.
The neighbourhood stands united in sorrow and has described him as the pillar and heartbeat of the community.
The SNL24 team spoke to the people of the kasi to gain insight into the doctor's character and the kind of person they remember him to be.

Recent violent crime posted by statista.com, South Africa’s crime rate index is currently at 75.4. It has the highest crime rate index in the entire African continent and ranks fifth among the most dangerous countries globally.
Police spokeswoman Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the cops opened a case of murder after the doctor was killed in Dobsonville.
“Preliminary investigations suggest that three suspects entered the surgery under the pretense of needing the doctor's medical assistance for their friend. Once the receptionist let them inside the consultation room, they reportedly shot the doctor. They stole two cellphones before fleeing the scene,” she said.
No arrests have been made and police are still searching for the suspects.
