THE murder case against the 19-year-old who was arrested for allegedly stabbing an 18-year-old pupil to death was postponed by the Rustenburg Magistrates Court on Friday, 27 October.
Lethabo Sibanda was stabbed in the throat with a sharp object allegedly during a fight on Friday, 2 June at the Rustenburg Bus Rank.
The case was postponed to 6 December 2023 for finalisation of investigations.
The accused was denied in July and remains in police custody until his next appearance.
Magistrate Hendrick Van Wyk said the reasons stated by the accused during his application did not prove why it was in the best interest of justice that he be granted bail.
“The court is of the belief that the state has a strong case against the accused. The applicant did not prove on a balance of probability that exceptional circumstances exist,” Van Wyk said.

He said the court had to take note of the seriousness of the offence and ensure that the interest of the community was taken into consideration.
Van Wyk said school pupils were involved and incidents of this kind couldn't be accepted.
Lethabo’s dad Benjamin Mafora said he lacked confidence in the justice system.
He said they were disappointment to hear that the state required more time to finalise investigations whereas they had previously said investigations were completed.
“The family is very disappointed that every time we get to court the case is been postponed without any progress,” he said.
“We want to see the accused in prison."
He said if the accused gets a lengthy sentence that would restore hope and trust in the law.
