MOTORISTS in Cape Town were left shocked after a man allegedly threw himself on an oncoming car on Saturday, 20 January.
The incident happened on the R300 highway close to Hindle Road near Delft.
The motorist was driving from Bellvile's side, heading towards Mitchells Plain.
According to witness Novela Diba (44), who was driving behind motorist who hit the deceased, the man was standing on the side of the road before sprinting in the way of an oncoming vehicle.
“Thank God I had enough braking distance behind the driver who hit the man. He tried to swerve but the deceased man was too close, so he hit him. His body went up in the air before it fell on his vehicle again. The driver nearly lost control but he managed to keep the vehicle on the road,” she said.
The 48-year-old motorist who was traveling with his son (13) said he was coming back from work going home in Khayelitsha when the incident happened.
The man had a swollen face as he was injured during the accident, but his son wasn't hurt even though he looked traumatised.

“I thank God that my son and I survived the accident. We could have died. This person has ruined my life. My car is beyond repair now. It's a write-off. Why did he throw himself in my way, trying to kill me and my son in the process?” said the motorist.
Another witness, Andiswa Macoba (30), who was walking on the Hindle Road bridge from Delft to Mfuleni, said: “It was a shocking move from the deceased man. He sprang into the road when the car was less than 20 metres away. It happened very fast, and he was hit and fell on the road,” said Macoba.
Kevin Jacobs, the City of Cape Town’s Traffic spokesman, said traffic cops arrived at the scene at 3.08pm and left at 5.08pm.
He said they closed the right-side lane where the deceased person was.
Western Cape police spokesman Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the incident.
